India today is facing an unprecedented array of environmental challenges, from climate change to depleting groundwater reserves. The country’s energy sector lies at the heart of many of these issues. This one-day symposium will convene leading historians and social scientists working across India to discuss the past and future of India’s energy sector. Together, we will examine how India’s energy portfolio has changed over time, how citizens and workers have experienced environmental challenges on the ground, and how experts can better communicate their findings with broader publics.
