Quantum mechanics underlies all of chemistry and materials, but in a hidden and heretofore mostly passive way. The control and manipulation of quantum coherent properties of materials is exciting, is relatively recent, and is in many ways unexpected. It turns out that robust quantum coherence can be enabled by emergent physics in some materials in new ways. This offers new opportunities for discovery of new fundamental scientific concepts, phenomena, and technologies. Any implementation of quantum information technologies in the real world will depend on advances in materials and nano-devices, supported by theory.

This workshop will bring together experts from India and UChicago to discuss the way forward, looking to grow long-term collaborative research activities. The format of the workshop is intended to instigate in-depth discussion. The workshop is open to the public, and we particularly encourage the participation of graduate students.
