On Monday, September 8, 2025, Nobel Laureate and University of Chicago faculty Professor Michael Kremer presented findings from a rigorous two-year randomised evaluation of the Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) programme in Andhra Pradesh government schools.
Conducted by researchers from the Development Innovation Lab (DIL) — including Prof. Kremer (Director at DIL) and Dr. Guthrie Gray-Lobe — as well as collaborators Alex Eble, Saloni Gupta, Sabareesh Ramachandran, and Wendy Wong, the study showed how evidence-backed EdTech, when combined with strong governance, can deliver meaningful improvements in Student LEarning. The event was organized through a joint collaboration between the Central Square Foundation and ConveGenius.AI, and hosted by the Development Innovation Lab-India at the UChicago Center in Delhi.
Key takeaway: Students using PAL gained nearly two additional years of learning over ~17 months compared to peers in non-PAL schools, more than doubling their rate of learning — highlighting the potential of scaling innovations in education.
