On 20 February 2026, faculty from the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago participated in the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, contributing to an important conversation on the role of artificial intelligence in shaping future economic growth.
As part of the summit, Professor Michael Kremer and Professor Ufuk Akcigit joined a panel discussion titled “AI and the New Frontier for Economic Progress: Linking Innovation to Inclusive Growth.” The session was co-organized by the World Bank and brought together leading scholars and policy experts to examine how emerging technologies can drive inclusive and sustainable development.
The discussion focused on the potential of AI-led economic transformation, particularly in enabling long-term growth and expanding opportunities in the Global South. Panelists explored how innovation ecosystems, policy frameworks, and global collaboration can help ensure that advances in artificial intelligence translate into broader economic progress rather than widening inequalities.
The participation of UChicago faculty in forums such as the India AI Impact Summit reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to contributing research and thought leadership to global conversations at the intersection of technology, economics, and public policy.
