United States citizens will need a visa to enter India. For detailed instructions on how to obtain an Indian Visa, please visit the webpages for the Consulate General of India in Chicago and the outsourced company India uses for visa applications — Cox and Kings Global Services. Please note that you will need to apply via the application center with jurisdiction over your residence. Illinois residents should apply through the CKGS Application Center located in Chicago. We recommend applying for a 5 year Business Visa for travel purposes.
Additionally all visitors would require a visa invitation letter from the Center in Delhi and a letter of incorporation of the Center in Delhi (templates of both the documents will be provided on request).
For helpful information on planning a trip, international trip and internship organizers and undergraduate participants on university trips should visit the University of Chicago’s Travel Toolkit for International Travel.
To help ensure that your IT needs will be met while you are traveling, please read the Travel Tips from IT Services, and contact IT Services in advance with your questions.
Travel Emergencies

University FCPA Policy
When engaging in international University activities, University community members are required to act ethically, honestly and with integrity and to comply with applicable laws. This includes compliance with anti-bribery provisions of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), which prohibits bribery of foreign officials. To assist members of our community with satisfying their FCPA obligations, the University has developed a FCPA Policy, together with additional guidance and FAQs. Click the link below to download a copy of the University’s FCPA Policy. You may also contact the Global Engagement Office via global@uchicago.edu to request a training session on the FCPA and the University’s Policy.
