The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy in collaboration with the Indian School of Public Policy is excited to announce its seventh batch of the Anubhav Lecture Series!

The Anubhav Lecture Series is held jointly by the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago Center in Delhi and the Indian School of Public Policy, Delhi. All citizens from South Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) with more than two years of experience in the policy and development sector are eligible to apply.

The Anubhav Lecture Series will be held online over five weeks every Saturday, from May 27, 2023, to June 24, 2023. To register for the program, please complete the application form by April 30, 2023, 11:59 p.m. IST. The Committee will review applicants and the decisions will be released by May 15, 2023. The Lecture Series shall convene distinguished individuals who have influenced change through their undertakings in development and public policy across the region, and equip them with enhanced abilities and training to amplify their reach. Based on a series of ten lectures presented by luminaries in the field, Anubhav represents a pioneering endeavor to unite South Asian trailblazers and provide them with the necessary guidance and resources to increase the scope and sustainability of their social impact.

Anubhav Lecture Series is a set of virtual weekend-based sessions delivered over a period of two months. At the end of the fellowship, the participants will receive a certificate from the Harris School of Public Policy and Indian School of Public Policy, contingent upon their regular attendance, active engagement, and completion of any assignments given.

Participants are on a full scholarship by the University of Chicago, Harris School of Public Policy. A reception will be hosted on the last day at the University of Chicago Center in Delhi, subject to covid guidelines. Participants will bear their own travel and lodging costs.

 

Eligibility and Requirements:

We accept a diverse range of applications each term. Specifically, we’re looking for applicants who -

  • Have 2+ years of significant experience in Development, Social Impact, or Policy;

  • Are citizens of countries in South Asia, and

  • Have an avid interest in Public Policy and Development.

Past Speakers:

Aniha Brar is the current Dean of the Young India Fellowship and has previously held the position of Director of Communications at Ashoka University. Some of the organizations she has worked with include Transworld International, ESPN, and Sony Entertainment Television. She is the former Executive Editor of Democratic World magazine.

Dr. Anunaya Chaubey is the Provost at Anant National University, India’s first design university. He is a well-known artist and academic in the fields of literature and art history. In addition to serving at Anant National University, Dr. Chaubey has been the Deputy Dean of the postgraduate Young India Fellowship program at Ashoka University.

Ashish Shinde is the Joint Director at the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. He is passionate about implementing policy at the ground level, having managed the Rural Housing Scheme for the Ministry of Rural Development. Ashish has completed his MA in Public Policy from the Harris School of Public Policy, UChicago.

James Abraham is the founder and director of SolarArise, which develops, owns, and operates solar power plants in India. James and the team led the development of solar policy in India. Prior to SunBorne, James was a senior partner at The Boston Consulting Group in India, where he founded and led BCG’s New Delhi office.

John Burrows is a senior lecturer in leadership at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy and an associate fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. He teaches healthcare leadership in the double master's degree program in Health Policy taught jointly by the University of Chicago and the London School of Economics & Political Science.

Lakshmi Sampath Goyal is the Chief Executive Officer at CCS and was previously the CEO of the India Sanitation Coalition (ISC), a program housed in FICCI. Her leadership career spans over 25 years in Ogilvy, HSBC, and Standard Chartered Bank overseeing multi-geographic teams.

Luis Miranda has been involved in setting up two highly successful companies – HDFC Bank and IDFC Private Equity. In 2018, Luis founded the Indian School of Public Policy, a public policy school focusing on the design and management of institutions and rules that govern society. Beyond this, Luis serves as Chairman for the Center for Civil Society and CORO, Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley, and Member of the Global Advisory Board for Booth. 

Mihir Mankad's versatile experience includes consulting at McKinsey Mumbai and Bain San Francisco, country office leadership at The Clinton Foundation, national television anchoring at NDTV, Zee, and DD, and teaching graduate school students and senior executives at Harvard University, Tufts University, and the Indian School of Business.

Pramath Raj Sinha is the Founding Dean of the Indian School of Business, and one of the Founders of Harappa Education, 9.9 Group, Ashoka University, Vedica Scholars Programme for Women, and Naropa Fellowship

Prasant Kumar is a former Special Secretary, at the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. As an Indian Forest Services Officer, he has served in various roles across the Indian Government for more than three decades as Deputy Advisor in the Planning Commission, Director in the Ministry of Defence, and Chief Conservator of Forests in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Punam Sahgal is the former Dean & Professor of Organization Behavior, at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. Prior to joining IIM Lucknow, she was the Raman Munial Chair Professor for Leadership at MDI, Gurgaon. She has a Doctorate in Management from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University, and is an Accredited Trainer, of the Indian Society for Applied Behavioral Sciences (ISABS)

Shamika Ravi is a Visiting Professor of Economics at leading graduate business schools in India including The BITS School of Management and The Indian School of Business. Her research focuses on the economics of development including areas of finance, health, urbanization, and gender. She was a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India. Dr. Ravi holds a Ph.D. in Economics from NYU.

Shruti Bhimsaria leads Research and Strategic partnerships for EPIC India. Previously she was associated with the Abdul Lateef Poverty Action Lab in various roles. She did a Master's in Public Policy from the Harris School of Public Policy, UChicago as a World Bank Scholar.

Stacy Blake Beard is a Professor of Management at the Simmons School of Business where she teaches Organizational Behavior. She is also a Faculty Affiliate at the Center for Gender in Organizations at Simmons and Visiting Faculty at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India. Prior to joining Simmons, Dr. Blake Beard was faculty at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. 

Tirumala Kaggundi is Joint Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce, New Delhi. His domain is International Trade and the Foreign Trade Policy of India. He has pursued a Master's in Computational Analysis and Public Policy from the Harris School of Public Policy, Chicago.
