Dr. Mohan S. Gundeti
Professor of Surgery, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology; Director of Pediatric Urology; The University of Chicago
Mohan S. Gundeti, MD, is an internationally recognized leader in the field of pediatric robotic and laparoscopic surgery for treatment of congenital urological anomalies. An acclaimed innovator, Dr. Gundeti was the first surgeon in the world to perform reconstructive bladder surgery in a pediatric patient and the first to perform pediatric robotic urology procedures in the city of Chicago. Dr. Gundeti performed live robotic surgery teaching workshops around the world, including Chile, Mexico, Spain, Israel, India, Australia and at home. He is also the director of an annual course on robotic surgery at the University of Chicago Medicine, where he performs moderated live surgical cases for continuing medical education.
Dr. Gundeti's research centers on patient outcomes and innovative techniques in minimally invasive surgery. He recently authored a book entitled 'Pediatric Robotic and Reconstructive Urology' and currently serves as a consulting editor for British Journal of Urology International and reviewer for various high-impact journals in the field of pediatric urology. Dipesh Chakrabarty is an Indian historian and is best known for his contributions to postcolonial theory and subaltern studies. He became a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2004, followed by Honorary Fellowship of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2006. He was given honorary doctorate by University of London in 2010 and University of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2011. He has authored various books and has also published and edited research papers. Chakrabarty is the recipient of the 2014 Toynbee Foundation Prize for his contributions to global history and of the 2019 Tagore Memorial Prize awarded by the Government of West Bengal for his book The Crises of Civilization.
